This is just an amazing week for New York. A week full of heroes, heroism, and feel-good stories. I just wrote about Wesley Autrey in our previous post, but here’s another story that also made headlines this week. As two New York City men save a boy from a 40 ft fall to certain death.

NEW YORK - Two passers-by rescued a toddler from a four-story fall, scrambling to catch him as he tumbled off a fire escape, police said.

Julio Gonzalez, 43, and Pedro Nevarez, 40, saw 3-year-old Timothy Addo dangling from a Bronx building around 12:20 p.m. Thursday, police and the men said. The boy had crawled out a window while a baby sitter was watching him, police said.

“He was hanging on for dear life,” said Gonzalez, a mechanic.

Hearing people in the building scream for help as the boy’s grip weakened, the two rushed over to position themselves to catch him.

“No one came,” Nevarez said. “We knew it was up to us.”

The boy dropped and hit him in the chest - so hard he knocked Nevarez off-balance - and bounced out of his arms, but Gonzalez caught him.

Timothy was treated and released from a local hospital, ending up with only a cut on his forehead.

The boy apparently hit some tree branches along the way as well, but thankfully he’s alright. It is truly inspiring that this week has seen some of the most amazing heroic acts from ordinary individuals doing extraordinary things. It makes me wonder, just how I would act if I were put in the same situation, one can only think that I would do the same. How would you act?
